Starting my first draft of designs

After deciding that I want my re-designed book jackets to have a 'house style', this design idea came to me.

All three of the designs, seen at the bottom of the picture, have the same composition and they will also have the same font, a theme colour, etc. At the middle of each picture, the subject will be holding an object that is symbolic in the book that they are featured in, providing viewers with an insight into the themes and narrative of the book. Hopefully, this will also entice them to know more about the object and bring about several questions such as 'Why is the subject the object?" and "what does the object mean?".
At the top of my design page, I created a design idea for '1984' which will act as a logo for the book jacket, an element that has been used by many YA dystopian fiction covers and is very popular amongst the YA readers. The grey text and lines are the areas that will be printed on paper. The red areas are the areas which will be cut off to reveal the red page underneath. I noticed that the cutting design would not work as the middle bit of the eye will just fall away. To hold it together I thought of leaving a two horzontal strips of paper on each corner of the eye (the left and the right side )
I noticed that I misspelled the author's name wrong! However, I corrected it in my digital version of the design. I designed this logo in Photoshop. As you can see, I left a space on each side of the eye in white so that they wont be cut. Rather than just have one line of cut area throughout the shape of the eye, I decided to make it two lines (a small one and a big one going around it). I think that this will be more visually appealing to look at.

I will continue on drafting more designs for my project throughout the following weeks and onto the up coming December holidays, which I am aiming to start my full book jacket drafts in.
