After trying to get as much people as I can to take part on my survey, 38 people participated in my survey. I converted my results into percentages and rounded them off to make it easier to analyse.
Results:

Before conducting my survey, I predicted that the YA readers: judges a book by its cover, find that book covers are important and would prefer contemporary or creative book covers over traditional ones. The results from my survey confirms my predictions as 50% of the participants answered 'Yes' when asked whether they judge a book by its cover and 48% rated the importance of a book cover to be 'Quite important'. Furthermore 47% of the participants rated that they like creative book covers and 35% of them rated that they liked contemporary book covers. I think this is because that YA readers prefer books to look more updated and eye-catching, especially since there are a lot of innovative designs available in today's time.
The top three things that the participants look for in a YA dystopian book cover are the style (37%), the colours (16%) and the titles (16%). Moreover, a picture based book cover was highly rated (34%), which was top be expected because of the growing trend of this type of YA book cover style, with Abstract (17%), Minimalistic, and Dark designs (both 16%) voted next to it. Most participants also preferred a book cover with quotes from the novel (28). This contradicts the picture based design style a bit however, a book that has 'Eyes' or the characters featured in it are also quite popular (both 27%).
To conclude my findings, based on the results I think that I should focus on what style would attract most YA readers, which is a picture based design with either the characters or a picture/drawing of an eye featured in it. Furthermore, I should think about including quotes from the book as well as it was very popular. I also think I should keep that colour minimalistic and dark rather than bright/neon as none of the participants prefer it. My next step should be looking at creative and unique book covers to help me get an idea of what I my book cover design should be.
