I created a Pinterest board, which includes uniquely designed book covers that I found over the internet and my own annotations for each books.
There were some book covers that I will take too much time and will need materials that I have no access to. I therefore narrowed my choices down to these designs, which are both accessible to make yet still unique and creative.
Laser Cutting
I might be able to get access to my college's laser cutter. However, I can't I can always use a cutter to create my laser cut design.
Glow in the dark paint
I really like how the Harry Potter books glow in the dark, especially since it links in with the magical feeling with what that books has. I can use glow in the dark paint and combine it with a laser cut design. One of my main ideas for this design is using the glow in the dark paint for '1984' with a laser cut eye and a glow in the dark eye painted beneath it. I think that, when viewed in the dark or at night it emphasises that feeling of being watched constantly like what the characters feel like in the book. I also think that it links in well with the telescreen element in the book.
Including 3D objects
I really like the match included in the re-designed book of Fahrenheit 451. All of the dystopian fiction that I looked at has a symbolic object within them therefore I think this idea will go well
Using paper with different textures (i.e. brown, cardboard type paper or metallic paper)
Using a different type of paper rather than the traditional glossy paper give book jackets a more unique look.
A modern and striking design
From what I've seen from my research, I don't think that you don't necessarily need to use special materials in order to make the book book cover 'creative' or 'innovative'. A fresh and eye catching design can make a book cover look really updated and unique. This can be done through clever use of typography or placement of graphic elements on the cover/jacket.
