This week I have finished week 2 and started week 3 of FutureLearn course

Week 2

Week 2 focuses on narrowing down your research topic. I've already finalised a hypothesis for my EPQ with my supervisor, however I still submitted my question to get feedback from other people on the course just to see if others think that my hypothesis is clear and specific enough.

Week 3

Week three talks about sources and articles, similar to the one that our Diana and Steph talked about last week in the workshop about looking for articles and contacting experts. So far, I've learned that "90% of everything in rubbish" and that I should be critical of the articles that I chose to support my research. This means making sure that the articles that I chose are professional, high quality, and trustworthy. The course provided us with a checklist of what to consider when choosing an article. The checklist is helpful for me when checking books about graphic design or other books related to my research. The course also talked about primary and secondary sources, emphasising on the importance of primary sources, and the advantages, disadvantages and how to access the internet, broadcast media and datasets.

-------

I also started looking at popular YA book covers. I went on a site called GoodReads, a site where book readers share their opinions on certain books, rate them and also discuss any topic about books. The most popular book cover on the site for a YA dystopian book was Veronica Roth's Divergent.

The book cover was deisgned by Joel Tippie so I looked him up on the internet and found an article on the official Divergent site showing how the designer finalised the book cover. The article was very simple and it does not have a lot of detail but it still gives the basic idea of book designing. It also shows pictures of the diffrent book designs for Divergent and how it got narrowed down to a small selection of choices.
